Eme Crawford is Director of Advocacy at Tell Them, an advocacy organization that works to improve sexual and reproductive health policies in South Carolina. Eme earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of South Carolina where she wrote and defended her dissertation on Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex. She taught rhetoric and composition and professional communication courses for 8 years before joining Tell Them in 2012. As Director of Advocacy, Eme sets advocacy strategies based on specific South Carolina data and uses traditional organizing tactics as well as innovative digital tools and tactics to mobilize a broad base of registered South Carolina voters to connect with their legislators. Eme has grown Tell Them’s membership from 11,000 to 20,000 supporters of responsible reproductive health, trained and lead a team of 100 advocates in lobby day, and worked with a legislative team to improve sex education, further the Cervical Cancer Prevention Act, and pass domestic violence reform.
