Clarissa Garcia is a seasoned grassroots organizer with 15 years’ experience in direct action organizing for health non-profits. She has a passion for working with volunteers and supporting their efforts to influence the legislative process. Clarissa currently serves as the National Director of Grassroots Advocacy for the American Heart Association. In this role Clarissa oversees the vision for the You’re the Cure program, including marketing and program promotion, federal grassroots mobilization campaigns, and training and resource development for regional staff. Clarissa has served as the face of the You’re the Cure program and has developed treasured relationships with heart and stroke advocates across the country. Prior work include serving as a regional community organizer for the America Cancer Society driving local and state legislative initiatives in New Hampshire.
While at AHA Clarissa’s work has received national recognition with program awards including; 2011 Public Affairs Council Association Grassroots Innovation Award, four 2010 Marcom International Awards, and 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 PR News NonProfit PR awards for Advocacy Campaign and Lobbying Efforts and Annual Publication, in addition to awards within the organization.
