Carlos M. Gutierrez, Jr. is a lawyer, investor, and startup advisor based in Washington DC. In his current role at Clark Hill PLC, Carlos provides counsel to companies and individuals seeking to maneuver the intersection between government and business. He is a former International Development professional, having worked on Trade and Integration issues for the Inter-American Development Bank and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. He’s also worked in various capacities in the U.S. House of Representatives. An advocate for entrepreneurship, Carlos has served as an investor and advisor to startups focusing on using technology to solve the world’s toughest problems. He is particularly passionate about identifying, funding, and advising startups in emerging markets, primarily Latin America.
Since 2006, Carlos has appeared on Washington Life Magazine’s annual Young & The Guest List which names Washington DC’s Most Influential 40 and under leaders. In 2014, Latino Leaders Magazine recognized Carlos as being at the forefront of the next generation of Latino leaders. He has co-chaired high level business exchanges between Mexico and the U.S.,including the U.S Chamber of Commerce-Embassy of Mexico Emerging President’s Dialogue and the Mexico-U.S CEO 2.0 Dialogue. Carlos serves as a director of American Friends of Soroka and is an Advisor to Viridis, Inc. an innovative ed-tech startup. In his free time Carlos is a contributor to the Huffington Post and an avid skateboarder.
Carlos M. Gutierrez, Jr. hold a BA from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree from Georgetown’s McDonough School of business, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a former resident of Mexico, Canada, and Australia and is fluent in English and Spanish.
